If you’re looking for the ideal spot for a pre-dinner tipple or a quiet haven for confidential chats, Coa is the newest arrival on the Hong Kong cocktail bar scene.
Led by award-winning bartender Jay Khan, the Oaxacan-inspired bar has opened on Shin Hing Street, just steps from the restaurants of Hollywood and only minutes from Central Hong Kong.
Named for the age-old machete-like tool used to harvest agave, Coa showcases the most impressive collection of rare agave spirits in the city; dressed in wood, brick, and concrete, as well as beautifully hand-drawn murals depicting goddesses and mythical creatures, Coa is home to a range of extremely hard to source spirits, from the Los Danzantes Still Proof Maturado Vidrio, of which only 470 bottles were produced, to the Los Javis Jabali, a distinctly complex and rich mezcal.
Taking inspiration from his travels to Mexico, Jay has transformed traditional cocktails into his own daring creations. Featured on the cocktail menu are eight artisanal masterpieces, each more delicious than the last. Tepache, a traditional Mexican fermented drink crafted in-house, is fermented naturally with wild yeast and comes in two mouth-watering flavours: Pineapple & Cinnamon and Watermelon & Mint. The Caffeinated Negroni is a delightfully strong signature mix that recreates the classic negroni with Don Amado Rustico Mezcal, Master’s gin, coffee-infused Mancino Bianco vermouth, and Aperol. Cocktail connoisseurs will love the Saladitos & Tea Punch, a rich and full-bodied ‘punch’ with Remy Martin VSOP, Mount Gay XO, salted plum, Darjeeling tea, peach, lemon, Angostura bitters, and a bouquet of mint.
During the soft opening period only, limited snacks will also be served at COA. Bar bites include savoury Fries with Mexican Spices and fresh Guacamole with Tortilla Chips – the perfect accompaniments to your artisanal Coa cocktail of choice.
