A Slice of British History in Melbourne

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, an award winning restaurant in London, will open its second establishment in the Crown Towers Hotel in Melbourne, Australia, tomorrow.

Overlooking the city across the Yarra River, the 120-seat restaurant offers contemporary dishes inspired by historic British gastronomy dating back to the 1300’s, including rice and flesh, frumenty, and black Angus rib eye with the original mushroom ketchup. In collaboration with Barman Tony Conigliaro, the restaurant’s bar also features a unique historic reference, offering a bespoke collection of cocktails which represent the history between Britain and Australia.

Guests will enter the restaurant through a 20-meter dark wood corridor that has its own aroma based on the notes of damp moss, wood smoke, and leather. The dining room is designed by Australian company Bates Smart, featuring a rustic yet elegant environment decked out in natural materials such as wood, leather, and iron. A mechanical moving art piece by UK artist Robert Higgs is located in the heart of the  room and pays homage to the watchmakers of Greenwich, who created the mechanical pulley systems for the Royal Courts of England spit roasts. www.dinnerbyheston.com.au
