Rhoda Opens in Sai Ying Pun

A casual and relaxing dining venue for business catch-ups, Rhoda has opened at the Upton in Sai Ying Pun, close to the bustling Central district. Created by award-winning restaurateur Yenn Wong and executive chef of 22 Ships and Ham & Sherry, Nate Green, the new restaurant dishes up Asian ingredients in western style to create simple yet delicious modern comfort food.

Designed by internationally-renowned designer Joyce Wang, Rhoda’s interior is a celebration of chef Green’s style of cooking, which revolves around a charcoal grill. The space features a range of subtle references, from a charcoal wood-cladding Shou Sugi Ban on the walls, to rose motifs branded into the wood tables.

Rhoda features a daily changing menu, ensuring the best of local ingredients available are being served. Guests can start off the meal with a selection of snacks, such as lotus root chips with chicken liver cream; and cold dishes, including Hokkaido scallops with pink grapefruit, basil and pickled ginger; and Terrine of Mangalica pig’s head and shoulder, with pineapple chutney and home baked beer bread. The feature of Rhoda is its Grill menu, on which dishes are all carefully cooked over a charcoal grill at the kitchen bar. Signature dishes include slow-cooked octopus cucumber with mint and picked shallot; clams with sweet corn, slow cooked egg and katsuobushi; and salted king prawns with smoked eggplant and crispy shallot.

Perfect for sharing, the Something A Little Bigger menu offers an array of dishes for four diners, including Brink’s farm free range chicken with spring onion and ginger dressing; 12-hour slow-cooked Hawke’s Bay lamb shoulder with stock vegetables; and the seafood casserole, which is filled with freshly-caught clams, squid, shrimps from local sea, and Canadian lobster. There is also a range of desserts available, ranging from vanilla cheesecake with rhubarb and yamam, to ginger biscuit trifle.

A great selection of carefully-chosen craft beers, wines, Japanese sake and bourbons are also on offer at the bar, which is adjacent to The Barber Room, a private dining room that can accommodate up to six people, perfect for intimate business lunches. www.rhoda.hk
