United expands flight options from Hong Kong to the U.S. with a new daily direct service to Los Angeles and twice-daily service to San Francisco.

United Airlines (UAL) will launch its daily Hong Kong (HKG)-Los Angeles (LAX) nonstop service on October 29, 2023, subject government approval. The airline’s new Hong Kong-Los Angeles service will provide travellers in Hong Kong and the southern part of mainland China with more flight options to more locations in the mainland U.S., Canada, and Latin America, along with the twice-daily Hong Kong-San Francisco flights.

Beginning October 29, 2023, United’s new flight UA802 will leave HKG daily in the evening and will arrive in LAX in the afternoon the same day. The return flight, effective October 28, 2023, UA801 will depart LAX daily in the morning and will arrive in HKG in the evening the following day. All LAX flights will utilise the B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft offering 48 seats in the United Polaris business cabin, 21 seats in the United Premium Plus cabin, and 188 seats in the United Economy cabin.

“As the only U.S. airline to fly to Hong Kong today, we are excited to offer the new Hong Kong-Los Angeles service to meet strong requests from our customers,” says Walter Dias, Regional Director of Sales for Greater China, Korea, and Southeast Asia Sales. “Together with the twice-daily Hong Kong-San Francisco service, we will be able to offer easy and smooth connections to more than 70 destinations in the mainland U.S., Canada and Latin America including popular cities such as Cancun, Chicago, Mexico City, New York, and Washington D.C. via our hubs in Los Angeles and San Francisco.”

United has well positioned itself to bounce back post-Covid while many carriers in North America and Asia struggle to return to their pre-pandemic operations. “As a part of United Next, we took a unique strategy during the pandemic and decided to retain all widebody fleet and keep pilots in place to make sure we can quickly bounce back when the pandemic ends,” says Dias. “The launch of the Hong Kong-Los Angeles service is an excellent example of our successful strategy.”

United has served Los Angeles for more than a half-century, providing its customers with over 100 daily flights from LAX to more around 60 destinations across the globe. The airline invested US$573 million in a project to refresh nearly all of its customer-facing spaces in Terminal 7 and Concourse 8 at LAX. At more than 20,000 square feet, the LAX United Club lounge features a gourmet kitchen and bar offering expanded food and beverage options, seating areas conducive to working and lounging, and spectacular views of the airport, the Hollywood Hills, and the Los Angles skyline.

This winter, the hub will offer direct flights to seven Asia-Pacific destinations including Hong Kong, Haneda/Tokyo, Narita/Tokyo, Melbourne (Australia), Brisbane (Australia), Sydney (Australia), and Auckland (New Zealand)
