New MAS Chief Comments on Changes and Rebranding

Malaysia Airlines will begin some serious revamps in order to draw more business travellers to the airline, ahead of the full airline rebrand on September 1, 2015.

The airline will soon upgrade the business class cabins on its Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 aircraft with an all-new design, developed to provide a more comfortable experience for travellers. The new cabins will see fully-flat seats replace the current angled flat beds and ‘sloping sleeper’ seats. New Malaysian Airlines CEO Chris Mueller promises that the new seats will be world-class, above the industry standard, and offer large dimensions.

He also maintains the the airline will retain its Airbus A380 service between Kuala Lumpur and London, but would comment only briefly on other routes. “The London route is our flagship route, and we’re very happy with it,” said Mueller. “We also have a lot of cargo capacity [in it] and we’re not going to make any changes to that.”

“We will reduce the frequency [of flights] on some routes and in some cases, abandon the route altogether.” he added.

The airline will also close some of its global Golden Wing airport lounges, while the remaining spaces – including the flagship lounge at Kuala Lumpur, and facilities at London Heathrow and Melbourne – will undergo a revamp.

“I would like to stress that we are not just MAS in a disguise,” said Mueller about the new airline. “We are truly a start-up with a new vision.

“We will walk through the gates on September 1, and embark on a new path of doing business,” he finished. www.malaysiaairlines.com
