China Southern to Link Hainan with Europe

China Southern Airlines will launch direct flights between Sanya, on the Chinese island of Hainan, and London Heathrow next month.

Europe and China have forged a comprehensive network of air connections as cities in Greater China develop demand for business and leisure travel. In the case of the new China Southern Heathrow – Hainan flights, the service gives residents of the island’s two key cities, Haikou and Sanya, access to Europe.

The China Southern Heathrow – Hainan flights, which commence July 12, will operate two times per week using an Airbus A330-200 aircraft featuring four cocoon first-class seats, 24 business-class seats, and 187 economy-class seats.

China Southern‘s CZ651 is scheduled to depart Sanya, the largest city on the island, at 13:15, arriving in London at 18:45. The return leg, flight CZ651, will depart London at 22:10 and arrive back in Sanya at 16:00 the following day.

China recently launched a visa-free policy in Hainan for nationals of 59 countries. Since the visa-free policy came into effect on 1 May 2018, and more than 19,115 visa-free tourists visited Hainan. However, foreign travellers using the visa waiver program still need to register before they arrive.
