Changes for Malaysia Airlines’ Australian Services

As Malaysia Airlines prepares to undergo a thorough rebranding later this year, the latest round of changes will see the airline’s services to Australia drastically reduced.

Leading the slate of changes to its Australian services is the axing of Malaysian Airlines’ daily service to Brisbane from August 9.

Flights to Adelaide, arguably the airline’s most popular Australian destination, will be trimmed to just four per week, with the cancellation of its MH136/MH139 flights from August 9.

Sydney and Melbourne will both be serviced by twice-daily flights from the first week of August, down from the current triple-daily.

Finally, Perth services will also be reduced from August 15.

“Malaysia Airlines regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers as a result of these changes and assures that customers holding tickets to and from Brisbane will be eligible for a refund or reaccommodated on alternative flights,” said an airline spokesperson. “Connectivity will be maintained via Malaysian Airlines flights to other destinations within the Australia region, with connections on our Oneworld partner, Qantas Airways, to/from Brisbane.”

While the cancellation of the Brisbane services are confirmed, it’s unclear whether the chances to the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth routes will be permanent. www.malaysiaairlines.com
