Shangri-La Opens in Bengaluru
Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts has opened its first hotel in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, with the Shangri-La Hotel Bengaluru set to become the city’s leading destination for business and pleasure. Offering a dynamic array of restaurants and bars, arresting public spaces, state-of-the-art meeting spaces, and 397 lavishly-appointed guest rooms and suites, the property is located on nearly two acres of land on the cusp of the central business district, with views Bangalore Palace and Cubbon Park.

Elevated at over 900 metres above sea level, Bengaluru is known as the hub of India’s technological industry. Located 30 minutes from the international airport, Shangri-La Hotel Bengaluru features a design persona reminiscent of India’s regal past, with accents from across the globe, including tiles, carpets and wood carved screens with abstract floral silhouettes, marble from Italy, Turkey and China; and textiles originating from the United Kingdom and Asia.

“Shangri-La’s expansion on the Indian subcontinent marks an exciting third quarter for the group,” says president and CEO Greg Dogan. “We are excited to reveal a new luxury landmark in Bengaluru that adds to our international presence and will welcome our loyal and new guests for business or leisure.”

Starting from 41sqm, each guest room features elegant touches, including a tufted leather headboard and plush patterned carpeting, married with complimentary and wireless internet access, spacious executive desks, and bathrooms dressed in locally sourced New Gold Vein marble.
The hotel’s 30 suites – awash in gold, plum and green – range from 98 to 274sqm, and include three Governor Suites and the palatial Shangri-La Suite; guests can marvel at the panoramic views and enjoy full access to the Horizon Club Lounge, a sophisticated space providing breakfast, tea, evening cocktails and the services of a concierge team.

Spread over two levels are the hotel’s function rooms, which will set a new benchmark for corporate events and celebrations in the city.  The Grand Ballroom, with its own pre-function area and a ceiling height of 9.5 metres, covers 739sqm and is one of the largest meeting spaces in Bengaluru.  The flora-inspired venue holds up to 900 guests and is supported by five additional and versatile function rooms on level two.

Ideal for in-house entertaining, the hotel’s eight wining and dining venues offering spectacular settings; Shang Palace, Shangri-La’s signature Chinese restaurant, led by Chef Lin Lin Yang, will be the place to entertain over Cantonese dim sum, barbecue specialities, the flavours of Sichuan, Beijing and north-east China, as well as regional vegetarian dishes, while b Cafe (pictured), the all-day dining restaurant on the lobby level, features interactive kitchens preparing international and local fare for its buffet and an à la carte menu.

Three more restaurants – Caprese, a stylish Mediterranean restaurant, Ssaffron, an elegant Indian eatery, and Yataii, a Japanese restaurant that combines the best of traditional and modern Japanese cuisine – will open in the coming months. Destined to be the most glamourous and distinctive bar in the city, Hype is scheduled to open before year-end.

After hours, corporate warriors should retreat to CHI, The Spa, a serene and luxurious retreat in the sky that offers a fusion of chi techniques and Ayurveda treatments in nine treatment rooms, or work up a sweat at the health club, home to a 24-hour gym, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi, weekly yoga sessions and the Run Well programme – a running tour of nearby Bangalore Palace or Cubbon Park, accompanied by a health club associate.
