Doha-based carrier Qatar Airways will offer gate-to-gate connectivity after a recent ruling by Qatar’s Communication Regulatory Authority that adjusts laws that previously restricted in-flight internet use to above 3,000ft above sea level.
The new service will appeal to business travellers looking to get as much work done during their flight as possible, especially on the carrier’s shorter routes within the Middle East. Cell phone connectivity onboard using GSM and SMS services will remain restricted to above 3,000ft to avoid any interference to aircraft and land-based mobile services.
“Qatar Airways passengers will be able to enjoy uninterrupted internet connectivity from the moment they step onboard a Qatar Airways flight,” says Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker. “This is another significant enhancement to our award-winning levels of service that our passengers around the globe have come to appreciate. We look forward to welcoming passengers on board and helping them stay connected throughout the flight.”
Passengers flying on Qatar Airways flights served by its B777, B787, A350, A380, and select A320 and A330 aircraft can stay in touch with their friends and family around the world by using the airline’s on-board Wi-Fi service.
