Passengers on select Qantas flights can now access the airline’s inflight entertainment on their personal iPads and iPhones with the launch of the new Q Streaming app.
The wireless streaming service previously relied on airline-owned iPads being loaned to passengers for the flight, or using the web browser on their own devices to access the plane’s content server.
With the app, Qantas passengers flying on certain Boeing 717 aircraft will be able to access movies, TV showers and music on their own Apple devices through WiFi, with an Android app to follow.
Q Streaming is currently being offered on all two-class Beoing 717 and Airbus A330-200 aircraft where there are no in-seat screens in economy cabins.
“Once on board, customers simply switch their device to flight mode and turn WiFi on to connect to the Q Streaming WiFi network,” said the airline. “iPads supplied by Qantas will also be available on these flights.”
The Q Streaming app offers a user-friendly tap-and-view menu that allows them to browse the entire entertainment catalogue.
Qantas has announced itsintention to release an Android version of the Q Streaming app later this year, and also extend the service to “selected reconfigured” Beoing 737-800 aircraft and the upgraded Airbus A330 fleet. www.qantas.com
