Lufthansa Continues Business Class Revamp

On September 1, Lufthansa will launch its new ‘Business Class Signature Service’ on long-haul international flights.

Developed around the concept of individualised restaurant service, the new program will offer a higher crew-to-passenger ratio of one flight attendant for every eight passengers in business class.

“We want to create a restaurant-style service where flight attendants introduce themselves to the passengers and take care of the same group of passengers on the flight,” said Lufthansa chairman and CEO, Carsten Spohr.

With the new offering, meals will be plated in the galley and individually presented to each passenger.

Lufthansa began trialling the service on selected flights in late 2014, and has already soft-launched on selected flights.

“It’s a substantial upgrade to business class and the Lufthansa premium experience,” adds Spohr. “When we designed this a year ago we said that premium quality is what Lufthansa once stood for, and will stand for again.”

The upgraded meal service will complement Lufthansa’s latest business class seats, which are currently being rolled out on all long-range international aircraft. The complete fit-out is due to be completed by August.

This is all great news for Hong Kong-based travellers, since Lufthansa will begin operating its Airbus A380 between Hong Kong and Frankfurt from October 25, meaning passengers will be able to enjoy the revamped business class product.

“Asia is getting stronger and stronger, not just by size but also demand for quality,” explained Spohr. “It’s a growing market and a market where quality brands plays more and more of a role. German brands are very en vogue in Asia, quality German cars are selling like crazy there, so we are very happy to have the Lufthansa Swiss and Austrian brands all in our group and offer a higher quality there.” www.lufthansa.com
