Japan Airlines (JAL) has introduced complimentary wifi internet access on all its domestic flights, offering passengers seamless connections in the sky.
As airlines recognise the demand for high-speed wifi connectivity on flights – both short and long-haul – carriers across the world are investing in inflight internet services, and many are not charging for their use.
JAL started the inflight internet service from July 2014 as a paid service and will offer free internet service henceforth. Inflight video programmes such as sports, gourmet, music, and animation, are available for free on wifi-equipped flights and can be streamed on passengers own wifi-connected devices.
The free internet service applies to all domestic routes operated by JAL and Japan Transocean Air with an inflight wifi-equipped aircraft. All passengers on applicable flights will be able to enjoy free inflight internet access. A “free flight pass” button will appear on the portal after connecting to inflight wifi. The internet service will be available from five minutes after take-off until five minutes before landing.
JAL’s inflight wifi service is provided by Gogo through a satellite communication network.
