China Airlines will launch flights between Taiwan’s southern city of Kaohsiung and Indonesia’s vibrant capital Jakarta via Hong Kong next month.
The daily China Airlines Jakarta – Kaohsiung service will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. China Airlines already operates 28 weekly flights to Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali, and also codeshares with fellow SkyTeam carrier Garuda Indonesia to provide connecting services to Yogyakarta, Semarang, Bandar Lampung, Pontianak, Medan, Balikpapan, Pekanbaru, Makassar, and other Indonesian cities. A new Bali to Perth, Australia codeshare service was introduced in May 2018, to provide greater network coverage.
China Airlines has also been developing the southern Taiwan market for a long time. The airline operates a total of 113 services a week from Kaohsiung and Tainan to major cities in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and China. The 18 destinations include Hong Kong, Bangkok, Manila, Singapore, Jakarta, Osaka, Tokyo, Sapporo, Kumamoto, Okinawa, Seoul, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Beijing, Changsha, and Chongqing.
At the moment, China Airlines flies to 15 Southeast Asia destinations. Service frequency was progressively increased for the Taipei-Bangkok, Kaohsiung-Bangkok, and Taipei-Penang routes this year in support of the New Southward Policy. The addition of the new China Airlines Jakarta – Kaohsiung service in July will bring the total number of flights to Southeast Asia to 167 services a week.
