A Second Shangri-La Opens in Hangzhou

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has unveiled Midtown Shangri-La, Hangzhou – its second hotel in Hangzhou, China.  Only a 35- minute drive from Hangzhou International Airport, the new hotel is located in the vibrant Kerry Central Complex in downtown Xiacheng district, offering business travellers a luxurious retreat in the heart of the city.

Throughout the hotel’s 417 contemporary and elegantly furnished guest rooms, ranging from 43sqm to 86sqm, are delicate pieces of Hangzhou’s famous ice crack Ge Kiln porcelain, as well as emblems of lotus flower. All rooms feature spacious marble bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, large work spaces, and free wifi. Situated on the uppermost floors of the hotel are the Executive and Speciality Suites and the Horizon Club Lounge, where Horizon Club and suite guests can enjoy extra privileges, including express check-in and check-out, complimentary breakfast buffet, all-day refreshments, evening cocktails, and full concierge service.

“We couldn’t be more excited to open a second hotel in Hangzhou and extend Shangri-La’s genuine heart-warming hospitality to travellers arriving at a destination that melds history with modernity,” says Shangri-La president and CEO Greg Dogan. “Shangri-La will continue to play an important role in curating authentic guest experiences to showcase the qualities that make Hangzhou so special.”

For a round-the-world culinary journey, guests can dine in the European-style restaurant Central Market, where a show kitchen brims with international cuisines. The Great Lounge is an ideal gathering place with live entertainment, refreshing cocktails, and an enviable Chinese tea menu, which includes varieties of Hangzhou’s renowned Longjing tea; while Midtown Brewery features specialty craft beers and live music. The Chinese restaurant Cheng Zong, which will open later in the year, will serve casual Cantonese and bespoke Hangzhou cuisines in a chic setting of plush carpets and Oriental artwork.

For business meetings and events, the hotel boasts ten function rooms, including a Grand Ballroom that can seat up to 840 guests. A professional team of event experts are also on hand to make organisation a breeze.

With a dedicated approach to well-being, the hotel’s Health Club features a fully-equipped gym, an indoor swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, as well as sauna and steam rooms.  Spa-goers can enjoy pampering treatments at CHI, The Spa, which draws on traditional Chinese philosophy. www.shangri-la.com
