Sci-Fi Business Shirts

Imagine business clothing that was not only wrinkle free, but was also lightweight, heat reactive, water and wind proof, and odor free thanks to polyester fibres infused with reclaimed coffee grounds? Sounds like the future of clothing? You betcha.

It may sounds like something an Olympic hurdler might wear but the Ministry of Supply, a science-savvy Boston-based, crowd-funded company created by four MIT graduates, has created a line of business travel ready items for men that use state-of-the-art materials and game-changing manufacturing processes to create the next generation of suitcase stuffers.

From business shirts and polos to t-shirts, blazers and windbreakers (the stink-proof socks are a sure winner), the line’s revolutionary items are made using ‘phase changing’ material developed by NASA that stores heat away from your body when you’re too warm and returns it when you get cold. In addition each piece features a windproof membrane, a DWR coating that makes moisture bead on the outside, a waterproof membrane, moisture wicking that draws moisture away, ensuring you stay dry, and a brushed, smoothing finish.

Take the company’s Aviator blazer or Stealthy Coats for instance; ideally suited for travel in Asia where temperatures fluctuate from balmy and humid outdoors to downright frozen in air conditioned offices and restaurants. The blazer and stealthy coats combine all the semi-formal style of a sports coat, with the technology of a windbreaker. Heat mapping showed the best place for laser-perforated vents, which help expel moisture and manage body heat, while photogrammetric strain analysis showed where the body moves the most, necessitating four way stretch panels that ensure comfort.

As stylish as the jackets are, they’re still machine washable and wrinkle-resistant. It’s clothing that’s out of this world.  www.ministryofsupply.com
