Samsonite Launches Eco Collection

Luggage company Samsonite has built on its commitment to incorporating sustainable practices into product innovation with the new Eco Collection for Asia.

Plastic waste is a critical global environmental issue that communities cannot ignore. To address this issue, Samsonite has worked with one of its suppliers to create sustainable materials that are suitable for travel and lifestyle products.

Through the joint effort, Samsonite has successfully developed Recyclex, a fabric made of 100 percent post-consumer recycled plastic (PET) bottles. Recyclex is as durable and reliable as Samsonite’s polyester fabric made from virgin materials, but with the added benefit of reducing plastic waste.

“Sustainability is a priority that runs through our products, from our hands to consumers,” says Subrata Dutta, president of Samsonite Asia Pacific. “We recognize that travellers are increasingly aware of environmental protection and looking for ways to reduce their environmental footprint. We are proud to present the first wave of Eco Collection in Asia, as part of our commitment to increasing the sustainability of our products with more responsible and environmentally-friendly materials. We expect to generate stronger awareness of environmental protection in the market and will continue to seek opportunities to maximize the use of recycled and recyclable materials in our products and packaging.”

The first wave of Eco Collection in Asia includes the Spark Sng Eco, the Octo Eco, and the Marcus Eco, products that have utilised over 400,000 recycled plastic bottles in their production. With the introduction of Eco Collection, Samsonite will play a vital role in supporting environmental protection through the transformation of recycled plastic waste into a durable fabric that meets high standards of purposeful innovation, performance, and sustainability.

Continuing to embrace the core DNA of Samsonite bestseller Spark SNG, the eco version of this renowned collection is made entirely out of Recyclex fabric. Cork material serves as a nature-conscious alternative for the polyurethane trim on the carry handles, logo, ID tag and back protection, making SPARK SNG ECO a strong, tactile, and trendy option for travellers.

The interior lining of the Octo Eco version is made out of Recyclex fabric, while the exterior is made out of recycled polypropylene. This collection offers a diverse mix of daily styles and travel items including various cabin styles, featuring TSA combination lock and a unique new octagon shape of a bold box with rounded corners. With added strength whilst maximizing volume, this ultra-lightweight collection features Samsonite-guaranteed quality that is both tactile and trendy.

Available in multiple new backpack styles, the Marcus Eco presents a stylish and trendy look with a functional interior. The main exterior fabric and lining are all made out of Recyclex fabric, while the interiors of these backpacks are designed to provide maximum organization. An adjustable laptop protective cradle makes the backpacks highly protective. The main compartment of each style in the Marcus Eco line is also equipped with YKK security zipper, which can effectively prevent any unwanted hands from opening the bag easily.
