Marriott to Debut in Canberra with Midnight Hotel

Marriott International will make its debut in Canberra this September with the opening of Midnight Hotel.

Created in collaboration with Iconic Hotels, the new development will be part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and will occupy prime position in Braddon, in the heart centre of Australia’s capital city. Midnight Hotel will be the second Autograph Collection property in Australia. The first was the recently renovated Pier One Sydney Harbour.

Design and art will be the focus here, thanks to a thoughtful concept created by acclaimed Australian architects Fender Katsalidis. Each of the hotel’s 199 guest rooms and suites will feature bespoke commissioned artwork by international artist and architectural designer Thomas Bucich. The design-forward property will also continue the Autograph Collection brand ethos of personalisation, customer engagement and authentic cultural immersion.

Guest rooms here will be a real retreat with 4K HD Smart TVs setup with Google Chromecrast, plush king beds dressed in premium linens, and complimentary minibars stocked with locally-sourced products.

Guest of Midnight Hotel will also be able to enjoy a range of useful business and leisure facilities. The light-filled Braddon Merchant restaurant will serve fresh Mediterranean dishes in a European deli-style setting, while Midnight Bar will offer a great space for after-hours relaxation over craft cocktails and choice wines.

For those looking to relax, Midnight Hotel will also feature a full-service wellness centre that includes a 20-metre lap pool, two fully-equipped gyms, a sauna, and a pool deck with private cabanas.

Business travellers in Canberra will be able to host all manner of meetings and events thanks to the property’s range of conference and event spaces. Guests will be able to book private boardrooms and a conference room – all fitted with high-end furnishings and state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment – and make use of a well-appointed business centre.

“This deal marks a significant milestone for us since it will be our first [hotel] in the capital of Australia,” said Richard Crawford, Senior Director, Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Marriott International. “We look forward to working closely with Iconic Hotels to bring this hotel to this market.”

“Canberra is in a period of unprecedented growth, with demonstrated year on year increase in domestic and international travel to our city. Our collaboration with Marriott International through Iconic Hotels perfectly aligns with this growth and enables us to cater for increased hospitality demands on a global scale as well as promote Canberra on an international stage,” said Nick Georgalis, Founder and Managing Director of Geocon, Iconic Hotels’ parent company.
