Malaysia Airlines Goes Contactless

In the wake of the global Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia Airlines continues to drive towards an increasingly touchless passenger travel experience with new technology and innovations.

In adapting to expectations for seamless, hygienic and safe travel in light of the new normal, Malaysia Airlines has taken a bold step forward as it reveals the future of contactless journey detailing some innovative features to be introduced to its passengers’ experience.

This new norm experience begins at home, when passengers create and customise their bookings with meal and seat selections and other services thanks to the integration of enhanced features on Malaysia Airlines’ mobile app. The experience continues at the airport, where new biometric facial recognition technology takes over several boarding procedures and the verification of travel documents, offering a hassle-free and contactless check-in, security clearance and boarding processes.

Other new features include the addition of an e-wallet cashless payment option on the airline’s app that will allow passengers to do seat upgrades and last-minute purchases. In addition, passengers can access e-reading materials such as its inflight magazine, Going Places and e-menus for onboard dining selection.

This latest initiative follows the airline’s recent introduction of the Digital Travel Health Pass, currently being developed to help passengers enjoy a safe and streamlined journey as global travel resumes.

“As an airline that puts customer experience at the centre of everything we do, we will continue to focus on driving attributes that meet customers’ evolving needs and preferences especially related to their safety and comfort,” says Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Operations Officer Ahmad Luqman Md Azmi. “On top of the existing safety and health protocols, we have been proactively exploring new ways and working with key partners to transform customers’ journey into a contactless experience that will also contribute to the airline’s operational efficiency. This serves as part of the airline’s efforts to instil passenger confidence to travel with the assurance of a safer end-to-end experience, in line with our Fly Confidently campaign.”

In the wake of the global Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia Airlines continues to drive towards an increasingly touchless passenger travel experience with new technology and innovations.

Over and above the contactless features, passengers arriving in Malaysia can expect a safer and hygienic journey with the installation of the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology at KLIA before reaching the baggage carousel. These new features will complement the new normal requirements and the enhanced safety and health protocols put in place by local and international authorities and regulatory bodies namely Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAHB), Immigration and Customs of Malaysia, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), World Health Organization (WHO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and Ministry of Health of Malaysia (MOH).

To provide clarity on the future contactless experience, Malaysia Airlines has released a short video titled “Experience a contactless journey with Malaysia Airlines” on its social media platforms, showcasing upcoming features that will be implemented during departure and arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
