Marriott Opens Two New Seoul Hotels

Marriott brings distinctive lifestyle experiences to the South Korean capital with the opening of Le Méridien Seoul Myeongdong and Moxy Seoul Myeongdong.

Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International’s extraordinary portfolio of 30 hotel brands, award-winning loyalty program, and endless experiences – continues to expand its growing lifestyle offering in Seoul with the opening of Le Méridien Seoul Myeongdong and Moxy Seoul Myeongdong. Located in Seoul’s dynamic Myeongdong district, the hotels will deliver two distinctive lifestyle options at the same address to guests, from the mid-century modern aesthetic and European chic signature programmes at Le Méridien Seoul Myeongdong to stylish design and playful experiences at Moxy Seoul Myeongdong.

Le Méridien Seoul Myeongdong and Moxy Seoul Myeongdong are conveniently located in the heart of Seoul, within a 15-storey mixed-use complex in Myeongdong. Myeongdong – meaning ‘bright cave’ in Korean – is known for its fashionable street culture, shopping, dining, and bright colourful neon signs that light up the nights. Some of Seoul’s most popular attractions including Myeongdong Cathedral, Namsan Seoul Tower, Cheonggyecheon Stream, Namdaemun Market, Changdeokgung Palace and Deoksugung Palace are located nearby. Seoul Incheon International Airport is approximately 70 minutes’ drive from the property.

A Convergence of Design Narratives and Synergies

The convergence of the Le Méridien and Moxy brands in one location inspired a highly original design narrative of the common spaces within the hotels. In the arrival area, the duality is brought to life by a serrated wall juxtaposing a map of Paris with the city grids of Myeongdong, with elements and prints of flight paths as a homage to the beginnings of the Le Méridien brand. On the other side of the entrance area, bold graffiti prints interrupt the pure lines of the walls and floors in a characteristically playful Moxy spirit. The delightful mix-and-match of these two unique brands continue into the guest elevators and is represented by the separation of the space into two contrasting zones.

Le Méridien Seoul Myeondong: Inspired by An Era of Glamorous Travel

Upon entering the first-floor arrival area and heading up to the new hotel lobby on the fourth floor, the hotel’s design concept is inspired by the halcyon days of air travel and the brand’s European-style decorative works including airport check-in counters as reception desks and flight-inspired artwork on the walls. The sculptural mobile pendant lights that dot the ceiling simultaneously represent Paris, the city of lights, and Myeongdong, the bright cave.

The lifestyle hotel offers 200 timeless chic guest rooms and suites that capture the energy of the local in the form of strong geometric shapes, from the hinged full-height mirrors in the foyers to the art installations on the bedheads that bring to mind the shapes of aircraft wings. Designed with comfort and ease in mind, each guest room features spacious bathrooms with rain showers, working areas and LCD televisions.

With the concept of “market to table,” which emphasizes freshness and creativity, the hotel’s all-day restaurant, La Palette Paris offers a crafted European cuisine infused with local flavours with fresh ingredients every day. Le Moulin is a deli that tempts with desserts and pastries including the hotel’s signature gelato ice cream and éclairs. Transforming the traditional hotel lobby into an elegant French Salon, Lumière Lobby Lounge & Bar welcomes guests with a signature afternoon tea with illy specialty coffee designed by award-winning baristas during the day, and creative cocktails, premium wine, and spirits come nightfall.

The Club Lounge, located on the top floor of the hotel, opens to Marriott Bonvoy Elite members and guests who stay on executive floors, offering complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments, and evening cocktails. The lounge also features an exclusive family zone where guests can enjoy the spectacular city skyline.

The hotel also offers creative spaces for social and business events. The 230-square-meter Mid-Century Room features floor-to-ceiling windows that bring natural light into the space which accommodates up to 120 guests. The 45-square-meter Boardroom is ideal for smaller meetings in a private setting for up to 12 guests. Le Méridien Seoul Myeongdong also inspires guests to savour the good life and discover Seoul in style while enjoying a rooftop indoor swimming pool and fitness centre.

Moxy Seoul Myeongdong: Bringing the Play on Spirit to the Neighbourhood

Located on the hotel’s fifth to ninth floors, Moxy Seoul, Myeongdong offers an unconventional hotel experience and encourages guests to Play On. Upon arrival, guests are instantly welcomed into an immersive experience with check-in at Bar Moxy, complete with a complimentary “Got Moxy” cocktail. The buzzing bar is also a communal hub in the lobby where guests can dine and socialize. Moxy’s 24/7 self-service grab-and-go concept gives guests access to what they want, whenever they want, with options including snacks, fresh juice, coffee, wine and beer. The bar also offers an all-day dining menu with a fun liquid dinner menu offering cocktails as the “main course”.

Inspired by the colourful neon signs of the Myeongdong district, the lights in the hallways on guestroom floors activate light beams like a kaleidoscope. The hotel’s 205 modern bedrooms intermix edgy details with functionality which are cleverly designed to maximize space and allow guests the flexibility to adapt the room to their needs. Guests can enjoy smart features from plush platform beds to a fun-size work surface, and peg walls instead of closets.

Moxy Seoul Myeongdong offers a wide range of room types allowing guests the flexibility to adapt the room to their needs. Single Loft and Quad Bunk Rooms offer bunk beds for those who travel with a couple of friends.  A Moxy Suite is also available for guests who want to throw a party in style, featuring a dining area and a bar.  Additionally, the new hotel features a 24-hour ironing room, a signature Moxy amenity, for guests to iron their outfits or socialise with their crew before hitting the town.
