As part of Island Shangri-La’s multi-year renovation, the Hong Kong hotel has launched the Hong Kong Suite, a sublime space on the 50th floor offering sweeping views of Central and Victoria Harbour.
This stylish new space is perfectly suited to high-profile business travellers looking to stay in the heart of the city but still enjoy a respite from the chaotic metropolis below. Airy and light-filled, the Hong Kong Suite’s design channels positive feng shui as it bridges the sea and the mountains, while gently nodding to Hong Kong’s rich history.
The 130 sqm Hong Kong Suite’s interiors are infused with a sophisticated contemporary Asian aesthetic featuring painted fabric walls, local craftsmanship, and especially commissioned works of art and antiques, including 19th-century paintings of traditional Hong Kong sampans acquired from Christie’s auction house.
When entering the Living Room, business travellers are met with the focal point of the room, the view of Hong Kong Harbour and the busy city stretching to the horizon, vistas that are complemented by a full-wall textured mural depicting a historical version of the Harbour, celebrating the city’s roots as a 19th-century fishing village. On another wall is a 65-inch flat screen television.
Four deep, comfortable dining chairs surround the generously sized circular dining table, which can be positioned to maximise spectacular city panoramas for the ultimate in dining with a view, while the adjacent maxi pantry features premium amenities customised to every guest’s preferences, including a filtered water tap, duo zone wine fridge, and amenity fridge, and service by a dedicated butler.
Cutting-edge AV technology adds another thrilling dimension to the elegant, spacious living room with a 65-inch flat screen television, IPTV with mirroring function and sound bar.
The bedroom continues to highlight feng shui elements by celebrating the mountain and the greenery of Hong Kong. This magnificent bedroom is an intimate sanctuary for relaxation and self-care, with a super king-size bed and a luxurious day bed positioned by the window to allow for even more beguiling views. Above the bedhead, guests are greeted by an intricate full-wall mural that reflects the lush greenery of Hong Kong’s famous Victoria Peak and Botanical Gardens.
The bedroom is complemented by a dressing room, which continues the mountain theme with textured wallpaper depicting traditional Chinese lucky clouds and pines, symbolising prosperity and longevity in Chinese culture. The wardrobes offer generous shelving and storage with ample space for couture, jewellery and accessories.
Finished in white marble, the large en-suite bathroom offers a true urban retreat filled with spa-like wellness rituals. Twin overhead rain shower heads and a heated shower bench feature in the expansive walk-in shower, and are complemented by double vanities, a 21-inch mirror television, a built-in Bluetooth speaker, a Dyson hairdryer, bath menu, and Acqua di Parma bath amenities.
The bathroom’s tour de force is undoubtedly the polished round marble bathtub under a golden ceiling, framed by hand-cut mosaics and inspired by magnolias, a flower native to China that was once so precious they could only be owned by Chinese emperors. Here, guests can elevate their bath time ritual with the Shangri-La Signature Bath Salt, a bespoke creation from YUN WELLNESS, the property’s award-winning spa, while a built-in Bluetooth speaker and television offer immersive entertainment options.
The suite’s butler is always just a call away, whether to serve a welcoming cup of Chinese tea, mix a perfect cocktail, prepare equipment for an invigorating fitness workout or draw a deeply relaxing scented bath. In-suite dining is available around the clock and draws on the hotel’s acclaimed culinary teams across different cuisines, supported by one of the city’s most acclaimed wine lists.
Guests of the Hong Kong Suite also have access to the hotel’s Horizon Club Lounge, with benefits including daily breakfast, evening cocktails.
“With the launch of our latest suite, we really wanted to celebrate the DNA of Island Shangri-La,” says general manager Clifford Weiner. “We ‘are’ Hong Kong, we sit at the beating heart of our city, and so with quiet grace and a lot of forethought, we have created a product that we feel represents the best of what our city has to offer to the world.”
