Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong has launched The Shangri-La Suite, a striking super suite designed as the ultimate space for sophisticated travellers.
Ideally suited for captains of industry, the spacious 222-sqm two-bedroom The Shangri-La Suite features the persona of a stylish private residence thanks to the use of layered colours, textures and patterns combined with crafted pieces and fine art from the hotel’s extensive collection.
Boasting hand tufted rugs, woven wall coverings and opulent hand-blown crystal chandeliers, the suite’s flexible layout can also be reconfigured for special events, with special lighting points, ceiling-mounted audio-visual speakers, perimeter hanging rails, and furniture that can be reconfigured for different intimate events.
The Shangri-La Suite welcomes guests with an elegant foyer wrapped in richly veined marble, softly curved walls with woven wallpaper, antiqued mirror, sage green lacquer, and the thoughtfully curated collection of art and design is evocative of modern chinoiserie.
Picture windows enfold the sitting room, bar and dining room, as well as the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom in breath-taking views of Victoria Harbour and the city’s iconic landmarks.
The sitting room and bar also benefit from an eight-metre-long landscape mural, a modern take on ancient guó huà Chinese landscape paintings, depicting historic Kowloon.
Bold and distinctive, every detail is eloquently expressed, from the marble and onyx flooring and furniture, as well as the rich velvet and silk embellished with hand crafted passementerie braids, trims, and tassels in jewel box shades, to elegant, moulded cornices and coving, and a luminous hand-blown chandelier. A glamorous cocktail bar topped with a jade green marble counter is equipped with a wine fridge and all the accoutrements for a cocktail party.
The adjoining dining room, which sits up to ten, is defined by its whimsical and vibrant garden theme – a nod to Hong Kong’s tropical landscape – woven and embroidered fabrics on the walls and plush chairs add a splash of feminine elegance, the solid marble table seats ten, and two French hand-blown crystal chandeliers add to the distinctive dining experience.
The suite’s state-of-the-art entertainment system, separate kitchen with Siemens appliances and fully stocked wine cellar from the hotel’s own Petrus wine selection as well as a staff entrance, and a guest bathroom provide the perfect balance of privacy and entertaining ease.
The serene master bedroom, framed with a delicate landscape mural, is an intimate sanctuary designed for relaxation. It features his and hers dressing rooms with spacious walk-in wardrobes, a safe equipped with a cascade of jewellery drawers, a full-height three-way mirror, and a dressing table with colour-changing lighting. Chinoiserie floral woven wall coverings add a haute couture feel, and there are open shelves for personal items.
The capacious spa-inspired ensuite bathroom sets a benchmark for modern luxury in Hong Kong. This sensuous sanctuary has walk-in twin rainforest showers, a heated bench, and two vanity tops as well as window seats by movable louvres that offer a grandstand view of the mesmerising harbour. The tour de force is the dramatic, deep, oversized bathtub by the window conceived for pure contemplation.
There suite also boasts a separate bedroom with its own enchanting Chinese landscape mural and bathroom, and an adjoining third guest room can be added by request. Both rooms can also be reconfigured into a private spa, gym or office.
Guests are also offered an extensive programme of amenities exclusive to The Shangri-La Suite, while a butler is on hand, happy to fulfil every wish, from a welcoming cup of Chinese tea; to preparing equipment for an invigorating fitness workout; or drawing a relaxing scented bath with complimentary Tata Harper and YUN WELLNESS bath amenities. A Pillow Menu, Sleep Ritual Gong Bath and Aromatherapy service is also on hand.
In addition, Michelin-recognised executive chef Uwe Opocensky of Petrus is on hand to create special Chef Tables in the Dining Room and the Lobster Bar & Grill bartenders are available to create perfectly paired drinks.
“We are incredibly proud to launch The Shangri-La Suite as the next step in our multi-year transformation of Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong,” says hotel general manager Clifford Weiner. “This is a bold maximalist space that is distinctly contemporary.; its interiors are infused with worldly panache as well as Shangri-La’s renowned Asian hospitality – creating the perfect setting for a memorable stay, event or a celebration in the heart of Hong Kong.”
