Etihad Flies Boeing 787-9 to Shanghai

Etihad Airways has increased the capacity on its route between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, enabling more Chinese business travellers to enjoy seamless one-stop connections over the Abu Dhabi hub to over 40 destinations across the Gulf region, Europe, Africa and South America.

The Dreamliner features 299 seats in a two-class configuration, with 28 seats in Business Class and 271 in Economy, a 14 percent capacity increase on the route. Each Business Studio offers direct aisle access, a fully-flat bed, and an increase of 20 percent in personal space. Upholstered in the finest Poltrona Frau leather, the studio is also equipped with an in-seat massage and pneumatic cushion control system, which allows guests the chance to adjust the firmness and comfort of their seat.

The outbound flight, EY862, departs daily from Abu Dhabi at 10.25pm and arrives in Shanghai at 11.10am the following day. The return leg, EY867, leaves Shanghai at 12.30am to arrive in Abu Dhabi at 4.15pm.

“Since launching flights between Shanghai and Abu Dhabi four years ago, we have experienced first-hand the huge growth of China’s outbound tourism market and enjoyed strong demand from both business and leisure travellers,” says Peter Baumgartner, CEO of Etihad Airways. “The decision to upgrade to the Boeing 787 reflects the importance of Shanghai and China to the airline. Shanghai is a modern metropolis and a global economic, financial, trading and shipping centre, which underlines its importance within Etihad Airways’ global network and supports the introduction of the new aircraft.”

Shanghai is the seventh destination in the world to be served by Etihad Airways’ B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which is also deployed to Brisbane, Düsseldorf, Perth, Singapore, Washington DC, and Zurich. www.etihad.com
