China Airlines, Mandarin Cut Back In-flight Service in Response to Coronoavirus

Taiwan’s national carrier China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines are the latest carriers to implement changes to their inflight service in light of the coronavirus epidemic.

On all cross-strait (Taiwan-Mainland China) and Hong Kong flights, cabin crews on the two airlines will now wear surgical masks while on duty. In addition, in-flight catering in all cabin classes will now consist of disposable meal boxes or pouches, and gloves will be worn when crew collects finished meals. Non-essential reusable items have now been replaced by disposable versions, while all in-flight duty-free sales is now available through online pre-orders only.

Due to the continued threat posed by the Wuhan coronavirus, China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines have also upgraded quarantine measures in support of government quarantine efforts. Meal boxes will continue to be served on flights departing from Taiwan for destinations designated as Level 2 Areas by the Central Epidemic Command Center(CECC) in Taiwan. However, only bottled water will be supplied and no food will be served on return flights while duty-free pre-order and in-flight delivery will also be suspended.
