Cathay Pacific’s Betsy Beer is Back

Cathay Pacific has relaunched its signature beer, Betsy, with a new recipe designed for sipping at 35,000ft and new availability across the classes.

Named after the airline’s first aircraft, a robust Douglas DC-3, CX first launched its own beer in 2017, a brew created specifically for in-flight enjoyment that was available exclusively in the carrier’s first and business class cabins. Now, Betsy 2.0, the second release of the lofty lager, delivers new dedication and spirit to beer lovers both inflight and on the ground.

Created by Hong Kong craft brewers Gweilo Beer, who travelled with the airline to get a sense of how the palate changes at altitude, the craft pale ale’s mandarin orange notes have been lovingly tuned to be better reflected at 35,000ft, while the use of the finest slightly-roasted barley and hops ensures depth and aromas of toffee and biscuit that are out of this world. Now designed to be enjoyed as much on the ground as it is in the air, Betsy 2.0 will be available at all of Cathay Pacific’s lounges at Hong Kong International Airport.

While bottles of Betsy 2.0 will still be offered in both the first and business class cabins, cans will now be available in economy and pemium economy, ensuring that all passengers have a chance to taste the legacy of one of the world’s leading airlines.

Cathay is at the forefront of the new movement to create specific inflight products, with British Airways launching its own gin, and Iceland carrier Icelandair recently creating a winter-themed beer with Irish brewer Boyne Brewhouse.
