Cathay Pacific Offers Covid-19 Insurance

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific is the latest international airline to offer passengers specific and complimentary Covid-19 insurance.

Designed to help build confidence among passengers, the Covid-19 insurance, issued in collaboration with AXA General Insurance Hong Kong, will be provided for free to all passengers until February 28, 2021.

Passengers that fly with the airline during that period will be covered for medical expenses related to a Covid-19 diagnosis incurred whilst overseas. The coverage includes PCR tests and hospitalisation, if necessary, and medical costs of up to US$200,000; quarantine costs of up to US$100 per day per passenger for up to 14 days; and evacuation and repatriation costs.

Customers are covered for a period of 30 days starting from the date of their departure, or until they return to their home, whichever is earliest.

Cathay Pacific has also enhanced its Cathay Care measures, which include temperature checks, contactless check-in and boarding, the use of antimicrobial coatings on check-in counters and common areas, the mandatory use of face coverings by passengers and crew; and the use of HEPA air filters.

A handful of other international carriers, including Emirates and Singapore Airlines, have also launched specific Covid-19 insurance programs to help bolster traveller confidence in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic.
