Korean Street Food Encounters

Jointly opened by 3-Michelin-starred chef Alvin Leung and the Liberty Group, Bib n Hops is a new Korean-inspired modern-style street food concept hidden away from the hustling corporate area in Wan Chai.

A private elevator at J Senses on Ship Street takes guests up to the 140sqm venue on the second floor. The restaurant features K-street style interiors, with a hint of old school American hip-hop and Korean hip-hop attitudes expressed in an industrial look imagined by award-winning Hong Kong design firm, Hands Hospitality. Rustic wood and brown leathers in the open venue complements the reddish bricks and rustic pipelines inside. Hung on the wall are two significant large murals, created by artist Sinic Choi, which are a combination of Korean calligraphy and graffiti.

Created by chef Leung and head chef Yong-Soo Do, a native of Busan, the inventive menu showcases Korean comfort and street food specialties, including mung bean pancake with seafood; yukhoe, Korean steak tartare; cheese nakji, stir-fried spicy octopus with mozzarella fondue; and the curry-enhanced house version Korean fried chicken.

The restaurant’s name “Bib” is a pun on the popular Korean claypot rice dish Bibimbap, implying a twist in its flavours with the use of ingredients, such as Peruvian spiced pork belly, Singaporean soft shell crab, and Sichuan chilli chicken.

“Hops” refers to Korea’s drinking culture. The eatery’s bar offers a selection of premium soju, fruit beers, rice wines, and cocktails concocted with K-inspired mixology, including Coffee Shop K, with coffee-infused soju, baekseju, Campari, and orange bitters; and Nongju, with gin, makgeolli, soy milk, citrus, and egg white.
