Mercato by Chef Jean-Georges Opens in HK

Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has brought his Italian dining concept from Shanghai to Hong Kong with the opening of Mercato in California Tower in Lan Kwai Fong. Set in a comfortable environment with design elements of Hong Kong’s markets, streets and landscape, the new restaurant is ideal for business lunches and dinners.

Using seasonal and fresh ingredients, chef Vongerichten has created a family-style Italian menu with Asian touches. Light starters include endive and sugar snap pea salad with parmesan dressing and herbs; char-grilled octopus with caper garlic dressing; and warm potato salad with green olives and fennel. There is also a range of hearty mains, including crispy beef short rib, polenta fries with smoked chili chianti glaze; and rigatoni and meatballs in smoked chili-tomato ragu.

In addition, the new restaurant offers a variety of “light-as-air” pizza, straight from the wood-fired oven and with a base made from the finest Italian semolina flour, such as wild mushroom pizza with three cheeses and farm egg.

The Mercato Bar features a selection of cocktails made with the finest Italian spirits and freshly muddled fruits. A diverse array of Italian wines is also available, making the Mercato Bar the perfect spot from which to enjoy a pre-dinner tipple or late night drink.
