Casual Dining Done Right

Hong Kong’s newest restaurant, Beef & Liberty, elevates the humble hamburger to all new heights.

Busy business travellers bound for Central Hong Kong will love the newest opening by the city’s iconic red meat specialists, Beef & Liberty. Taking the humble hamburger experience to new heights with double-height ceilings, captivating views and designs by interior specialists Autoban, the new 4,700sqft Beef & Liberty, located in California Tower at the heart of Lan Kwai Fong, offers crowd-pleasing, wallet-friendly comfort cuisine with all the elegance of a fine dining restaurant.

Unlike other Beef & Liberty venues, the new LKF restaurant features a fully stocked bar, a selection of draft and bottled beers, and a comprehensive cocktail menu created by acclaimed mixologist Pawel Mikusek that perfectly match a new selection of bar snacks created by celebrated chef Uwe Opocensky, former executive chef of the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong.

Signature drinks include The World Needs More Diplomats, made with Diplomatico Anejo rum, lime juice, cinnamon syrup, watermelon soda, chocolate bitters and cinnamon; and the Storm in a Teacup, a heady brew made with Earl Grey tea, tea pot bitters, yellow chartreuse, applejack, Rebel Yell rye whisky, and Cocchi vermouth di Torino.

Pair these libations with new bar snacks, from the chicken liver parfait with crispy shallots, maple syrup jelly and toasted sourdough; and moreish oxtail sliders with grass-fed oxtail, pickled beetroot, watercress, shallots, and Dijon mustard; to the breaded and fried mac’n’cheese bites, made with elbow pasta, Isle of Mull cheddar, and Parmesan, and served with rocket pesto.

Other crowd-pleasers include pork mince sausage rolls with fennel comote; and vegetable crudites, a unique salad that’s reminiscent of a signature dish Uwe created during his Mandarin days.

Beef & Liberty is the perfect spot for a casual catch up, group dinner or post-conference refuel, with most patrons coming for the acclaimed hamburgers. Favourites from previous Beef & Liberty restaurants have been retained on the new menu, including the delectable bacon cheese, black pepper burger, and the classic hamburger.

But the new venue is a chance to shake things up a bit and new additions include the sesame chicken and bamboo salad with mizuna, cucumber, carrot, and marinated bamboo shoots; and the new lambo burger, with eight-hour slow-roasted New Zealand lamb, with mint, cabbage, parsley salad, pickled chillies, and pickled radish, garnished with hot sauce mayonnaise.

Delectable desserts include the warm skillet cookie and cream, white and dark chocolate with lashings of thick cream; and the signature Oreo, with chocolate espuma, Oreo cookies, and vanilla ice-cream.

“After nine years at the Mandarin Oriental, I am extremely excited to have joined Beef & Liberty,” says chef Uwe Opocensky. “I share their attention to detail, healthy obsession with perfecting the art of the hamburger, and strong commitment to ensuring good provenance and quality of ingredients. I’m really excited to bring my progressive cooking, experience in fine-dining and creative cuisine to focus on the hamburger and it’s humble accompaniments.”

In addition to the enhanced menu, Beef & Liberty California Tower will continue the series of popular Beats & Liberty pop-ups, working closely with musical and events company Mischief Productions to introduce an ever-changing roster of local and international DJs every weekend.
